Civilian Applications of Unmanned
Aircraft Systems (CAUAS) First Community Symposium
dedicated to civilian applications of Unmanned Aircraft
Systems
Location: Millenium Harvest House, Boulder,
CO Dates: October 1-3, 2007 Convened
by: Dr. Susan K. Avery Co-chaired by:
Dr. Betsy Weatherhead and Dr. Brian Argrow
PURPOSE: To develop an integrated vision of
future UAS use in the US incorporating input from agencies, academia
and industry.
SUMMARY: Unmanned Aircraft Systems offer
unprecedented opportunities to the public and civilian sectors of
the United States. Safe, routine and long flights allow scientific
studies that fill important data gaps. US infrastructure is being
augmented by UAS through applications such as border patrols and
wildfire monitoring. Many US agencies are either using or are
considering the use of UAS to support their missions. This symposium
will address the range of public and civilian uses of UAS and
examine the potential future of this technology as it develops in
the next decade. Representatives from NASA, NOAA, DHS, DOE and FAA,
in collaboration from leading university researchers and industry
are gathering for a three day symposium in Boulder, Colorado on
October 1-3, 2007 to discuss possible collaborations, future
potentials and the most responsible path forward. Leaders in this
field will discuss, across disciplines, the need for coordination,
safety and responsiveness in the coming decade. Interested parties
are invited to register in
mid-August or to contact either Dr. Betsy Weatherhead or Dr. Brian
Argrow for early registration. The venue is expected to fill, so
interested parties are encouraged to register early.
