Reader’s letter: Desert life hangs in balance
http://www.hidesertstar.com/articles/2007/03/03/editorial/opinion5.prt 2007 Hi Desert Star
I lived in Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley for three years so I know a little about what it’s like. The hills and trees are wonderful. But unfortunately a lot of what Mr. Foss (Feb. 21 Your View) says is true, driven by greed and selfishness. The mobile home park “business” is a disgrace and defrauds many senior citizens of their money and trust — a lot of hidden stickers!
The air quality has become toxic due to “chemtrails” sprayed regularly by airplanes. Why don’t we get any answers or help from our elected officials on this? I couldn’t live there anymore, it got so bad for me.
This “Century Homes” project is absolutely shocking. How horrible. Where will the water come from for all those homes? What about the laws on the books to protect the natural habitat — Joshua trees, birds and rabbits? What about the greed and pandering to corporate money interests to permit this? Men like Paul Hoffman and Chad Mayes? They should be held accountable for selling Yucca Valley residents out.
Laird and Valerie Davis have it right — the time has come to wake up before the quality of life is destroyed in the Hi-Desert. Go to the city council, organize protests, contact your state reps and governor. Act before one shovelful of dirt is dug for this project.
And pray to God for mercy. Your very way of life hangs in the balance.
