The Food and Drug Administration has approved a version of MedImmune's FluMist which can be stored refrigerated instead of frozen. Company officials say the new formulation should allow expanded use of the vaccine in places such as schools, pharmacies and grocery stores. FluMist has been approved since 2003. The nasal spray delivers weakened live viruses to patients. It's approved for use in health patients between five and 49 years-old. MedImmune has been seeking expansion of the approval for children as young as 12 months-old who don't have histories of respiratory problems. MedImmune hopes to have the new formulation available next August.
