Sen. Hutchison Announces $450,000 NSF
Award for Nanotechnology Research at Texas
Tech National Science Foundation to Provide Funding
Award to Chemistry and Physics

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay
Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today announced that Texas Tech University
will receive an award of $454,050 for nanotechnology research from
the National Science Foundation (NSF).
"I congratulate Professor Edward Quitevis for receiving this
funding award," said Sen. Hutchison. "This grant will assist
advanced research efforts in nanotechnology as the university’s
leadership, including Chancellor Kent Hance and Engineering Dean Pam
Eibeck, continue their work to build Tech’s research
infrastructure.”
This project, entitled “Probing Nanostructural Organization in
Room Temperature Ionic Liquids Using Optical Kerr Effect
Spectroscopy” is under the direction of Edward Quitevis, a professor
of Chemistry and Physics at Texas Tech.
The award is effective September 1, 2007.
Sen. Hutchison is a member of the Senate Republican Leadership
as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee and a Member of the
Senate Science, Technology and Innovation Subcommittee, which has
jurisdiction over the NSF.
